Remembering Arthur Cumings

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Arthur Cumings, a much-loved and longstanding member of our squash club. Arthur was father to Alison Malynn, father-in-law to Tom and grandfather to Jonathan and Rebecca, all who are or have been members of the squash club.

Arthur was a familiar and warmly regarded presence at the club for around 50 years. His enthusiasm for squash, combined with his friendly and generous nature, made him an important part of our community.

He was a passionate supporter of the sport and played a significant role in encouraging and inspiring many of our junior members.

Many will remember Arthur for his dedicated support of Alison throughout her journey to becoming a professional squash player and later in her role as coach. He was a regular at matches and tournaments, always offering encouragement and taking a genuine interest in players of all ages and abilities.

Arthur, who had been a Fleet Street photographer, very kindly acted as official photographer for the club tournaments until last year and for many years at the Surrey Youth Games. In recognition of his commitment and service, he was awarded the Reigate and Banstead District Sports Award for 'Volunteer of the Year' in 2020.

Above all, Arthur will be remembered for his warmth, positivity and the friendships he built over many years at the club. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with his wife Shirley and all the family at this difficult time.

Details of Arthur's funeral will be announced when available.
